For patients with dental anxiety, nervous young children, and special needs patients, sedation dentistry may be the key to a comfortable dental appointment. Trinity Dental Practice offers oral sedation and laughing gas to help our patients relax. Schedule a consultation to discuss how sedation can help you.
What is Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry, refers to the use of medication to help patients relax during dental procedures. Sedation can be safely combined with a local anesthetic to make the patient numb, comfortable, and relaxed.
At Trinity Dental Practice, we offer sedation for a variety of treatments and procedures, from a routine cleaning or to a tooth extraction. Be sure to discuss all your questions and concerns with our dentist to determine if sedation is right for you, or child, or other family member.
Sedation Dentistry
Here are the sedation options we offer at our practice:
Laughing Gas
Laughing gas is a combination of breathable gases. We administer it to the patient through a small mask placed over the nose. The gas is safe for patients of all ages and induces a state of ease and relaxation. Our dentist can easily monitor and adjust the dosage delivered throughout treatment, and the effects wear off once the gas is turned off.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation is delivered to the patient as a pill or liquid. Depending on the dosage, the effects of this sedation method can range from minimal to moderate. Patients under oral sedation become deeply relaxed and drowsy but will remain awake. It may take one to two hours for the effects of sedation to leave the system, so it is recommended that patients have a friend or family member drive them home.
